I'm Charles Roe, a literary critic and historian who specialises in the late middle ages.

My research sets medieval English literature in its intellectual context, considering it part of an international and multilingual community.

At present, I am a post-doctoral teaching assistant at the University of Leeds, where I completed my PhD in September 2021.

I am currently working on a book on the relationship between secular poetry and religious writing in the work of Chaucer and his contemporaries. Alongside this, I am undertaking ground-breaking research on the career and remarkable influence of the thirteenth-century Franciscan scholar John of Wales.
